1. Market Overview
The Hang Seng Index (HSI) slipped 0.63% to 25,252.07 in the first minutes of trade, with risk appetite muted after overnight weakness on Wall Street. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index (HSCEI) fell 0.72% to 8,368.81, while the Hang Seng Tech Index (HSTECH) eased 0.56% to 4,502.53, still hovering just above the psychologically important 4,500 mark. The broader Hang Seng Composite dipped 0.11%.
Early moves show a rotation: base-metal names and selected food producers are outperforming, offsetting weakness in electric-vehicle makers, biotech and property developers. Big‐cap internet and hardware counters are mostly softer, but chipmaker Hua Hong and search giant Baidu are bucking the trend with modest gains.

5. Opening Summary
The Hong Kong market began Wednesday on the back foot, with the HSI retreating below 25,300 amid cautious global sentiment. The HSCEI and HSTECH also slipped, though the latter is still clinging to the 4,500 level, suggesting key tech names are cushioning broader downside for now.
Among heavyweight techs, sellers dominated early action. Lenovo, NetEase and BYD Electronic led declines, while Baidu eked out a 0.77% rise, thanks to continued enthusiasm around its AI cloud build-out. Alibaba and Tencent traded lower but remained relatively resilient, each off less than 1%.
Stock-specific moves were more pronounced: copper giant Jiangxi Copper surged over 3% on stronger spot prices, while Qiyunshan Food leapt more than 7% in its debut session, lifting the food segment. At the other end, in-car tech firm Pateo slumped over 10% following a below-consensus guidance update, and gaming developer XD Inc dropped nearly 3%.
Early sector rotation points to strength in basic materials and niche industrial technology names, contrasting with weakness in autos, biotech and property developers. No major IPO pricings were announced this morning, and the calendar remains light after Q3’s recent batch of listings.
