On September 10, the People's Bank of China set the yuan's central parity rate at 6.7766 against the U.S. dollar, marking an upward adjustment of 3 pips. This level represents the strongest valuation for the currency since February 8, 2023, underscoring continued momentum in the exchange rate's recent appreciation trend.

According to the CME Group's FedWatch tool, market expectations for the Federal Reserve's monetary policy path remain tilted toward tightening. The tool indicates a 60.2% probability that the Fed will raise interest rates by 25 basis points at its September meeting, while the odds of holding rates steady stand at 39.8%.

Looking further ahead to the October meeting, the data shows a 28.3% chance that the Fed will maintain the current rate range. Meanwhile, the probability of a cumulative 25 basis point hike by that time is priced at 54.3%, and expectations for a more aggressive cumulative increase of 50 basis points are reflected at 17.3%.

The combination of a firmer yuan midpoint and shifting Fed rate expectations highlights the ongoing interplay between domestic currency stability and external monetary policy signals. Investors continue to monitor these dynamics closely as they assess the outlook for both the Chinese yuan and global capital flows.
