Chongqing Rural Commercial Bank Deputy President: Net Interest Margin Poised to Bottom Out and Steadily Recover

At the 2026 interim results briefing held on September 10, Chongqing Rural Commercial Bank Co.,Ltd. addressed investor concerns regarding its net interest margin. Deputy President and Board Secretary Tan Bin noted that the group's net interest margin for the first half of the year stood at 1.60%, a 6-basis-point increase year-on-year. This improvement was largely driven by a 20-basis-point decline in liability costs, which effectively offset the downward pressure on asset yields.

Looking ahead, Tan Bin indicated that monetary policy is expected to remain moderately accommodative, with effective financing demand gradually recovering. Against this backdrop, the net interest margin may experience continued pressure at low levels while showing tentative signs of stabilization. He emphasized that the bank will place greater focus on balancing volume, pricing, and risk dynamics this year, adding that the scope for further declines in loan yields appears limited.

"Despite the challenges posed by a low-interest-rate environment, we are confident that our net interest margin can emerge from the bottom range and embark on a stable recovery trajectory, thanks to refined management on both the asset and liability sides and the release of regional strategic dividends," Tan Bin stated. He reiterated the bank's commitment to a dynamic balance among volume, pricing, and risk, concentrating on high-quality assets and expanding low-cost liabilities to drive sustainable marginal improvements in the net interest margin amid market fluctuations.
