Daxing Airport Upgrades: Flat Beds From 20 Yuan Now Offered Alongside Faster Security Checks

As Daxing Airport approaches its seventh anniversary of operation, a comprehensive suite of service enhancements has been rolled out, targeting key pain points in the passenger journey. The improvements span from expedited security screening to AI-driven customer service, alongside a significant upgrade of the overnight transit experience.

Gone are the days of fumbling to remove laptops, tablets, and umbrellas from carry-on bags during peak security queues. The civil aviation authority's "EaseCheck" dedicated lanes, now equipped with computed tomography scanners for hand luggage and millimeter-wave gates, allow for whole-bag inspection. Passengers are typically only required to remove power banks, saving an average of three minutes per person. While Daxing Airport previously operated two such lanes on the third floor's east and west sides, a new dedicated passage has been added on the B1 rail transit level. This brings the total to three, covering all domestic security checkpoints and operating daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Travelers arriving by subway or the Beijing-Xiong'an intercity railway can now complete security checks directly on B1, bypassing the need to ascend to the upper floors. Zuo Ming, a section chief at the aviation security branch, noted that the new B1 lane is tailored for rail passengers, enabling automatic verification with just an ID card swipe for a seamless "scan, open, pass" process. Reservations can be made up to 48 hours before departure via Alipay by searching "EaseCheck," and the lane has already served over 1.4 million passengers since its launch in October 2024.

The airport's information desk has effectively been miniaturized into a smartphone feature, now offering one-click access to live human agents. Daxing's intelligent customer service system, recently launched for all passengers, has assisted 15,000 users during its trial phase. At a service counter on the B1 level, passenger Mr. Mao successfully used the smart terminal to instantly connect with a human agent via video, praising the convenient "face-to-screen" interaction. Although Daxing Airport operates eight manned service desks, they are not staffed around the clock, leading to congestion during overnight and peak hours. The airport has now deployed six intelligent terminals in high-traffic mixed-flow areas to fill this gap. For standard queries regarding flight status, ground transportation, or security rules, passengers can receive instant replies via the official app or mini-program. Li Pengju, a business manager in terminal operations, explained that simple questions are handled by the online bot, while complex issues are seamlessly transferred to human agents, significantly boosting overall service efficiency.

Overnight stays and layovers, once a traveler's headache due to early morning departures or late-night arrivals, are now addressed with a full spectrum of options ranging from free to premium comfort. The observation lounge near Gate B21 is outfitted with over 20 recliners by the floor-to-ceiling windows, offering views of the tarmac. Passengers like Mr. Su appreciate the comfort during long layovers, while business traveler Ms. Dang values having a quiet spot to handle urgent work. The designated relaxation zone features partitioned designs for privacy, along with charging ports and USB outlets. Additionally, the terminal has 13 other free rest areas equipped with seats, loungers, and sofas. For those seeking a quieter environment, the "economy rest zone" near Gate A01 operates from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. at a starting price of just 20 yuan, bookable via on-site QR codes or the "Xingxian Song" mini-program. According to Chen Yuan, a supervisor in terminal management, the airport has introduced tent rentals this year to accommodate family travel needs, with service prices ranging from 20 to 129 yuan. Beyond these, options include massage chairs, sleep pods, hourly rest rooms, and upscale airport hotels. From streamlining transit to guaranteeing a restful night, Daxing Airport is evolving from a mere transportation hub into a welcoming sanctuary during the late hours.
