Data released on September 7th shows that the construction machinery sector continued its robust growth trajectory in August. According to the latest monthly sales bulletin from the China Construction Machinery Association, a total of 19,716 excavators were sold during the month, marking a 19.3% increase compared to the same period last year.

Looking at the cumulative figures for the first eight months of 2026, total excavator sales reached 191,557 units, representing a substantial 24.2% year-on-year growth. The strong performance was not limited to excavators, as the association's data also revealed that 10,832 loaders were sold in August, up 14.7% from a year earlier. For the January-August period, cumulative loader sales amounted to 104,658 units, a significant 25.8% increase year-on-year.

Excavator Segment Breakdown

Statistics compiled by the association from major excavator manufacturers indicate that domestic sales in August totaled 7,986 units, which includes 184 electric excavators. This domestic figure represents a 3.92% year-on-year uptick. Meanwhile, export volume reached 11,730 units, incorporating 60 electric models, reflecting a robust 32.7% surge compared to August of the previous year.

The cumulative data for the first eight months paints a similar picture of strong demand. Of the total 191,557 excavators sold, domestic shipments accounted for 94,619 units (including 411 electric versions), up 17.4% year-on-year, while exports hit 96,938 units (including 257 electric versions), climbing 31.8% from the same period in 2025.

Loader Segment Performance

In the loader category, data from leading manufacturers shows that domestic sales reached 5,421 units in August, including 3,056 electric loaders. This represents a 13.6% gain year-on-year. Export sales for the month totaled 5,411 units, of which 476 were electric, marking a solid 16% improvement from a year ago.

For the full January-to-August period, the sector sold 104,658 loaders in total. Domestic sales contributed 52,587 units (with 30,480 being electric models), up 17% versus the prior year, while exports accounted for 52,071 units (including 2,575 electric units), a strong 36.1% increase year-on-year.
