Japan-based technology group NEC (TYO:6701) earmarked 1.3 trillion yen for growth investments, including mergers and acquisitions (M&A), under its medium-term plan through March 2031, Nikkei Asia reported Wednesday.

The Japanese technology group is considering acquisitions in the manufacturing sector to expand its physical artificial intelligence, aerospace and defense businesses, the report said.

CFO Kunikazu Amemiya said NEC is not limiting its M&A targets to specific markets, with manufacturing-related businesses among the possibilities the company is looking into expanding, the report said.
