Shares of Tilly's rose after the company said it is on track to achieve its first profitable year since 2022.

The stock climbed 30%, to $4.94, in premarket trading Thursday. Through Wednesday's close, shares are up nearly 90% year to date.

The retailer late Wednesday reported net income of $8.4 million for its 13 weeks ended Aug. 1, compared with $3.2 million a year earlier. Quarterly earnings came in at 27 cents a share, up from 10 cents a share in last year's comparable period.

Net sales increased to $163.5 million from $151.3 million. Sales from physical stores accounted for just over three-quarters of total sales.

Total comparable net sales were up 12%.

Chief Executive Nate Smith said Tilly's maintained momentum through the second quarter and back-to-school season, citing the company's fourth consecutive quarter of year-over-year comparable net sales growth.

"Based on our year-to-date performance and assuming our positive momentum continues, we believe we are well positioned to produce our first profitable fiscal year since 2022," he added.

For its quarter ended Oct. 31, Tilly's expects earnings of 7 cents to 12 cents a share, compared with a net loss of 5 cents a share a year ago. Net sales are projected to come in between $150 million and $155 million, marking a 10% to 14% increase from last year.
