Some 33% were actively exploring quantum projects, compared with 22% of their peers.\nCompanies with stronger AI safeguards are also further ahead in preparing for quantum-computing risks. Among organisations leading on quantum computing, 89% were investing in AI-specific security controls, compared with 80% of their peers.\nThales says both groups had stronger rules for handling data and more developed systems for protecting it.\nThe survey was conducted by 451 Research by S&P Global and covered more than 3,100 respondents across 20 countries.\nAlmost all (98%) of the respondents are considering how AI and quantum computing could affect each other. They saw both possible uses and risks. More than half (57%) believe quantum computing could improve machine learning, while 54% say it could help simulate complex systems.\nThe report also identified a risk to information that companies already hold. Nearly two-thirds (61%) rank \"Harvest Now, Decrypt Later\" attacks, in which encrypted data is collected today in the hope of decrypting it later, as their biggest quantum-security concern.\nCompanies are therefore beginning to consider how their encryption would withstand that threat. Fifty-nine per cent regard testing post-quantum cryptography, designed for the quantum era, as their main route to becoming quantum safe.\n\"Quantum readiness is not a future compliance exercise. It is a strategic infrastructure decision that organisations need to start planning for now,\" says Andy Zollo, senior vice-president for application and data security at Thales CSP.\nSome organisations have started that work. Among those already exploring quantum computing, 22% state they were ahead of schedule in updating the systems used to manage digital certificates. That compared with 14% of laggards.\nOrganisations were also locating their most important data and checking where sensitive information was exposed. Some had begun testing post-quantum cryptography. Others were making their systems easier to update when cryptographic methods change.\nBesides that, organisations exploring quantum computing were also further ahead in managing the digital keys used to protect information. Those keys have an immediate role in digital-asset markets, where private keys are used to approve transactions.\nIn a separate announcement, Hong Kong virtual-asset trading platform HKVAX says it has integrated Thales' Luna Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) across its custody systems. HKVAX is licensed by Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission.\nThe modules are secure devices that generate and store private keys. They also sign transactions while keeping the keys isolated from software systems and privileged access.\nHKVAX uses it within a custody system that separates online wallets used for transactions from wallets kept offline. Access to the system depends on each user's role. HKVAX also has disaster-recovery procedures in place.\nMoreover, it has passed independent security audits. Its automated process for managing keys and the audit records produced by the hardware met the regulator's expectations.\n\"Thales Luna HSMs stood out because it is among the first vendors to achieve FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validation, with a strong track record in securing critical systems for financial institutions and governments.
